Cyriac Roeding
Cyriac Roeding (born March 26, 1973) is a German-born entrepreneur and angel investor mainly active in Silicon Valley. He is a former EVP of CBS (NYSE: CBS), where he started the mobile division, and then became an entrepreneur-in-residence at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. He is currently the co-founder and CEO of shopkick, a mobile shopping application, which as of January 2015 had 10 million users in the United States and 200 brand and retail partners, including Macy’s, Best Buy, Target Corporation, Old Navy, Crate & Barrel, Procter & Gamble, Revlon, Unilever, Pepsi, L'Oreal and Disney.〔 The app was ranked the most widely used shopping app in the real world by (Nielsen ). In October 2014, shopkick launched in Germany with 10 retail and brand partners nationwide and ProSiebenSat.1 as a strategic partner, in shopkick's first international expansion. Also in October 2014, shopkick was acquired for over $200M in cash by SK planet, part of SK Group and SK Telecom, a Fortune 100 company and the mobile commerce market leader in South Korea, in the largest mobile commerce transaction to date.
==Early Years & Education==
Roeding was born in Constance, Germany, and grew up in a small village north of Frankfurt, Germany. His father is a physicist and his mother worked with under-privileged children. Roeding went to high school in the U.S. (Texas) and Germany.
He sold his first computer program to a local newspaper at the age of 15 in an effort to make his job obsolete, and succeeded. Roeding then became a programmer for Hewlett Packard, while still in high school. He went on to university in Germany and in Tokyo.〔
Roeding received a master's degree (Diplom) summa cum laude in engineering and business administration (Wirtschaftsingenieur) from Germany’s Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. In 1994, he went to Tokyo to study Japanese management at Sophia University, and there first became exposed to mobile phones that had just become available in Japan.
